The end of the 2013 school year is here and now is the time to prepare for an enjoyable summer with family. This school year has seen some difficult times as well as some very bright points for the school district. Of special note for the school years was the passage of the bond in the fall authorizing the City of Valdez to go out for bond to build a new Gilson Middle School. We are so thankful for all of the support of the residents of Valdez in working towards our new middle school. The school district will be moving everything we are keeping from the “old” building during the week of May 27th. We will be turning the building over to Dawson Construction on June 3rd for demolition and abatement and will effectively be a construction site as of that date. We want to say thank you to all staff, students, and parents of our students for working closely with the school district on the many positive activities that we have had this school year. As the year ends, we look forward to receiving our state test results that were taken during April and we are excited to see how our students did on the exams. We have historically done very well and we all anticipate high scores again this year.
On a personal note, I wish to say thank you for allowing me to be the Superintendent of the Valdez City Schools for the last three years. On July 1st, Dr. Lisa Stroh will be taking over as Superintendent, and together we have been working to make sure the transition is smooth and efficient. Also, please remember if you have any questions or concerns, you are welcome to call the Superintendent’s office at 835-4357 ext. 7. One last time I wish to say thank you for all of your support and all that you do to make the Valdez City Schools great!
