THE MICHAUD-WHALEN CLASS POINT SYSTEM
Earning Points
The class is able to earn 40 points each day for following class rules
and using appropriate behavior. Each week, students earn 2 points for
each signed parent letter slip (possible 40 points). That makes a possible
240 points earnable each week. Bonus points are earned for compliments
given by teachers of pull-out classes and other special events, or for
bringing requested items to class.
Spending Points
Class points are spent every time a class member is unprepared for class
(no book, paper, pencil) at the rate of two points per item that must
be supplied. Class points are also spent for inappropriate behavior (essay
earned) at the rate of 4 points per name in essay box per day.
Using Points
Class points may be used in the following ways:
250 points 1 period free eat n’ seat (sit wherever you wish
and have a snack as we do our regular lesson)
600 points 1 free period (class votes on how to spend the period:
woodshop, games, holiday party, etc.) Note: in order to have a holiday
party, enough points must be per-earned.
7500 points Overnight at school with parent help
15000 points camping trip with parent help
Grading Procedures
Specifically indicate how students will be graded:
1. Individual projects or papers will earn individual grades, based on
a specified possible number of points.
2. Group projects will earn identical grades for each group member, based
on a specified possible number of points.
3. A student’s quarterly grade will be based on the percentage of
possible points earned: 90 – 100% = A, 80 – 89% = B, 70 –
79% = C, 60 – 69% = D, anything below 60% = F
Specifically indicate how make-up work will be executed:
1. Illness absences: student must make up work within the number of calendar
days absent x 2 calendar days.
2. Vacations, pre-planned trips, sports trips: all work due upon return.
Specifically indicate how extra credit will be considered:
Any student may request extra credit work to bring a grade up. The extra
credit work will be given a possible point value, and graded based upon
those points.

1. Group projects and presentations
2. Individual projects and presentations
3. Reading
4. Workbooks
5. Tests
6. Art – an attempt to use the process being demonstrated
7. Reports

1. Students will be required to submit a project to the Science Fair
