Eagle Winter 2001

Valdez, Alaska

Known locally as 'the Eagle Tree,' this tree is a favorite roosting area for these magnificent birds. It is located near the center of town behind the hardware store.

A few summers back, a daring eagle swooped down from this tree and snatched a small dog away from an unsuspecting tourist at a gas station below. The carcass of this poor pup was discovered sometime later on the roof of another building nearby.
