  • The VCS School Board will be holding a regular meeting on Monday, April 22, at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers. There will be a work session before the meeting beginning at 5:30 p.m. The agendas and packet can be found on our School Board Documents page.

Welcome to Valdez City Schools

  • We provide a safe and nurturing environment for our students that offers current and challenging curriculum across all four schools  - Hermon Hutchens Elementary, Gilson Middle School, Valdez High School, and Valdez Homeschool Program.  Students enjoy a rich educational experience from kindergarten through twelfth grade through the collaborative efforts of engaging teachers, administrators, and staff. We strive for excellence through every academic and extracurricular opportunity. 


    Families New to Valdez  - Valdez continues to be the community with promise.  We encourage you to visit our schools and enroll your children. The district office is available to assist with enrollment over the summer months. Beginning in August there will be someone at each of the schools who can assist in the enrollment process.     Dear Valdez Parents and Community,

    As we approach the end of the calendar year, I want to share a few reflections from my first several months in Valdez. This fall, I have had the opportunity to spend ample time in each of our schools: to observe classrooms and team meetings, talk to teachers and families, and shadow students. During these visits, I have been impressed by the strength of our community, the learning happening in our classrooms, the pride that students, staff, and families have in their schools, and the commitment to the success of every child.  Continue Reading
