  • Hermon Hutchens Elementary School serves approximately 300 students in preschool through fifth grade and is located in Valdez, Alaska on beautiful Prince William Sound.  Our school offers great educational opportunities for every student with curriculum-based best practices.  All students also attend "pull out" classes in physical education, art + tech, music, and library.

    • UPDATE CONCERNING INTERNET OUTAGE

      FRIDAY, SEPT 1: Valdez City Schools is currently experiencing a districtwide internet outage due to fiber issues with an upstream service provider in Washington State. Though they are actively attempting to resolve the issue, we do not expect a resolution before Saturday, September 2.

       

      NOTE TO PARENTS AND GUARDIANS: Due to the outage, all phone lines at VCS are down. If you need to inform the school of any updates for your child, please stop by the front office to communicate your needs.

  • New Kindergarten students, Kindergarten-Bound Preschool and New Student Enrollment is Open

    If you need assistance enrolling, please stop by the office between 8 am-4 pm. 
    • Pre-K Students must be 4 by September 1st 2023 & Toilet Trained. 
    • Classes are set up to ensure all 4 year olds enrolled can be accommodated. Class placements (morning or afternoon class) will be determined in the fall, but preference will be considered.
    • Kindergarten students must be 5 by Sept 1st 2023.
    • Birth Certificate & Immunization records or exemption form must be provided by the 1st day of school. These can be faxed, emailed or dropped off at the office.

    Returning student forms will be available mid-summer.

  • LUNCH PROGRAM:

    For the 2022-2023 school year, the Child Nutrition Program will be required to charge for meals. For the past two years, the USDA granted waivers that allowed students to eat at no charge. Those waivers have expired. Please click HERE to fill out the required application for your student to receive Free or Reduced lunches.
