Hello All,
I wanted to just reach out and provide an update on the GMS principal position. After a very thorough interview process, the lead candidate was offered a contract. However, yesterday the applicant withdrew his name from consideration. After meeting with GMS staff this morning, the decision was made to open the position up again. I will keep you updated as we progress through this process to ensure that we get the best people possible to serve our students.Thank you,Tim BauerSuperintendentValdez City Schools(907)834-4702 -

It is with great pleasure that I announce that after an incredibly thorough vetting and interview process for the Valdez High School Principal position, Mr. Peter Baksis has been selected to lead VHS for the 2024-2025 school year.
I would like to thank all involved in what was a rigorous and collaborative vetting and interview process. Student, staff, and community input was critical in making the decision with three very qualified candidates. Peter clearly stood out and is the right person for the job. Peter is focused on engagement and collaboration, which will be a huge benefit to our students. Please join me in welcoming Peter Baksis to the Valdez team as we move forward to provide the best we can for our students.Mr. Baksis and his family are excited to be part of the Valdez community and we certainly look forward to having them here.Peter shared the following when he accepted the position:It is with great appreciation and anticipation that we accept the position of Principal of Valdez High School. After careful observation, it is clear that Valdez High School has a lot to offer my children and I anticipate a seamless transition to becoming a part of the Team as a Buccaneer!A grand thank you is to the District and Building Staff who were part of the process but more importantly, the Students of VHS, for using their voice in deciding their future!
