Welcome to Art
-
There are two basic goals in a visual arts education: one, creating meaning in works of art, and two, perceiving meaning in works of art. Valdez City Schools Arts Core divides each of these goals into five Essential Learning Outcomes. The five divisions or standards are Artistic Perception, Creative Expression, Historical and Cultural Context, Aesthetics, and Connections. These five standards organize the curriculum into manageable and related units and guide the student toward a deep and holistic comprehension of the Visual Arts. Each Essential Learning Outcome is broken into components, each component into indicators and each indicator into suggested activities. Assessments for each of the activities or projects, is a standard student assessed rubric and a teacher assessed rubric. All art courses are one semester long.
