Federal Programs
Valdez City Schools Federal Programs' goal is to provide supplemental support to eligible students in the district to raise academic achievement.
The Federal Programs Department oversees the federal grants that fall under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1964 (and more recently amended in 2015 as the Every Student Succeeds Act). These grants work to promote and support success for students who face unique challenges with education, such as economic disadvantages, migratory lifestyles, learning English as a second language, and experiencing homelessness. Valdez City Schools uses ESSA funding as a supplemental resource to help students reach academic success through a variety of supports.
The Federal Programs office works closely with district administrators, educators, parents, and other stakeholders to plan and implement high-quality programs that will benefit the students of Valdez City Schools. The Federal Programs office administers grant funds for:
- Title I, Part A - Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged
- Title 1, Part C - Education of Migratory Children
- Title II, Part A - Preparing, Training, and Recruiting High Quality Teachers, Principals, and other School Leaders
- Title III, Part A – Language Instruction for English Learners and Immigrant Students
- Title IV, Part A – Student Support and Academic Enrichment
- Title VI, Part A - Indian Education
- Title IX, Part A - Education for Homeless Children and Youths, under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act
- Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
