Indigenous Education
The VCS Indigenous Education Program supports Alaska Native/Native American students for a successful experience throughout their K-12 schooling years. This is done through family engagement opportunities, increased Indigenous content in the classroom, and on-site cultural programming.
The Indigenous Education Program is funded by the Federal Government's Office of Indian Education, which is part of the U.S. Department of Education. Annual funding of the program is based on the number of individual qualifying students enrolled in Valdez City Schools. Student eligibility for Indigenous Education support is determined solely on the submission of an Office of Indian Education 506 form. To learn more about the Indian Education formula, visit the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education's Office of Indian Education webpage.
