Academic Improvement (Title I-A)
The purpose of the Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) program is to provide supplemental educational services so that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education.
At Valdez City Schools, Hermon Hutchens Elementary School is designated a Targeted Assistance participant. This means Title I-A services are provided to a select group of elementary students identified as failing or most at risk of failing the state's challenging academic standards on the basis of multiple, educationally related, objective criteria established by the district and supplemented by the school.
Title I-A teachers and paraprofessionals provide targeted supplemental instruction and/or interventions to identified students. This could include:
• Push-in and Pull-out Support
• Expanded learning time
• Before- and afterschool programs,
• Summer programs and opportunities
• Providing professional development to personnel who work with targeted children
• Implementing strategies to increase the involvement of parents of targeted children
