Dear Valdez City Schools Community,
As we prepare for another exceptional year at Valdez City Schools, I am honored to continue serving our community as your Superintendent of Schools. The 2026-27 school year is a significant milestone for me, marking my 25th year in education. My journey began with 15 years in the classroom, teaching social studies, science, and shop at the middle and high school levels, while also serving as a coach. For the past nine years, I have dedicated myself to school administration, including seven years as an elementary principal and the last two years leading our district here in Valdez. My educational foundation includes undergraduate studies at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and graduate work in Reading and School Administration through the University of Alaska.
Valdez has been home to my family since 2019. It is the place where my children grew up and graduated, and I share the same pride watching them pursue their post-secondary dreams as I do watching our students at Valdez City Schools grow and achieve each day.
Our team is incredibly proud of the robust academic growth our students are demonstrating, particularly in reading and math. Building on this success, we are working to launch the initial phases of a district-wide writing initiative. We are also committed to enhancing our facilities; high school students will benefit from a new strength and conditioning room, welding booth upgrades, while we collaborate with the City of Valdez and Wolfe Architecture on the remodel of our high school. I approach this school year with great anticipation.
While this year marks a personal milestone with my youngest child graduating from high school, it also represents the beginning of a long and rewarding journey for our newest learners in preschool and kindergarten. I encourage you to cherish the time spent with your families this summer and throughout the coming year; the moments we share with our children are truly special. I look forward to a successful and inspiring year ahead for all our students and families.
