    Mrs. Shannon Major

Shannon Major is a long-time Valdez resident and a Valdez High School graduate.  She fufilled her life-long school counseling goal through a winding life journey.  After high school, she completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from University of Alaska Anchorage as a UA Scholar recipient.  Returning to Valdez to start her family, she worked with the local domestic violence shelter as a teen interpersonal violence prevention specialist.  As her children began to enter the school system, she continued her own education with a Master in Social Work degree, with a School Social Work certification. She is passionate about helping students prevail over life challenges, set goals for success, and define their future.

     Ms. Kate Goudreau

Kate Goudreau is also a long-time Valdez resident and Valdez High School alum (Go Bucs!). After graduation, she jumped in with Laborer's Local 341, working on the Trans Alaska Pipeline in the summers and attending Gonzaga University in the winter. Once she obtained her B.A. in Journalism from GU, she applied to participate with AmeriCorps in Flagstaff, AZ and spend some time volunteering in the Coconino Forest eradicating invasive species and fixing up national park trail systems. Connections from that 3 month program led to adventures in India working with an orphanage and long distance hiking on the Appalachian Trail. She came back to Valdez to begin work on her MEd in Secondary Counseling through UAF and work as a permanent employee with Alyeska Pipeline Co. When the opportunity to work with kids and use her degree opened with Valdez City Schools, she jumped at the chance and is excited to help kids determine their own "adventure" path after high school whether it be career, college, or work force based.
