Mrs. Lisa Banner

Thanks for stopping by my webpage!  First Grade in Hermon Hutchens Elementary is one of the happiest places in the world to learn and have fun!  I just love being here.  I've been teaching first grade, kindergarten, and preschool since I worked in a daycare center during high school, which was so long ago that my vanity prevents me from listing the years.  Let's just say, my first bio was done on a typewriter.  ;)

Twelve years ago, my sweet husband convinced my to leave sunny Nevada and come to beautiful Valdez.  Having taught for a long time in the lower 48, it's easy to see how lucky we are here in Valdez.  The resources, the opportunities, and most of all the generousity of the people are unparalleled.  Parents are amazingly supportive and involved in our community. Teaching in Valdez is an extrordinary treat.

When I'm not in my classroom, I enjoy hanging out with my family.  My husband and I have a blended family with 9 amazing kids, 7 terrific in-law kids, and 9 spunky little grandbabies.  We are travelers, hikers, joggers, readers, golfers, hunters, crafters, cooks, and occasional whiners, although we are working on the last one.

When I AM IN our classroom, you will find us reading books from amazing authors like Eric Carle, Laura Numeroff, Mo Willems, Dr. Suess, Ted Arnold, Arnold Lobel, and many, many others.  You will find us writing in our journals, building lego castles, creating artistic masterpieces, and solving tricky math problems. We will be working together, sharing our stuff, and helping each other when the "owies" of life come along.  We will be memorizing facts, practicing on our Macs, and eating some snacks!  I'm not sure life should peak in first grade, but really, does it get any better?
