Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Samantha Scranton
My name is Samantha Scranton, and this is my first year in Valdez! I moved here from Hooper Bay, AK, where I taught third grade for the past two years. I grew up all over Alaska because my father was an Alaskan State Trooper, so I have developed a strong appreciation for our state. Most my time in Alaska has been spent in Southeast where I enjoy hunting, fishing, hiking, gathering berries/plants, unicycling, painting, skin sewing, and cooking. Growing up in Alaska, much of my learning came from the outdoors, so I value a place-based education. This means that I hope to bring students out of the classroom and into the community and nature of Valdez. I find that making learning relative to a student's surroundings makes learning more meaningful and authentic.
I am excited to become part of the Valdez community and to teach fourth grade at Hermon Hutchens Elementary! I love having parents involved in the classroom, so please come say hello. I lookforward to meeting everyone!
