Public Announcement:


The Valdez City Schools Board of Education declared a board seat vacancy at their regular meeting on May 22nd, 2023. 


The School Board is seeking interested community members to apply for this seat. Any interested candidate must submit a Letter of Interest to the Board Secretary, Samantha Burke, no later than June 16th, 2023, in one of the following methods:

  1. Hand Delivery: District Office, 1112 West Klutina, behind the Hermon Hutchens Elementary Gym.


The Letter of interest for each candidate must answer the following:

  1. Why are you interested in serving on the Valdez City Schools Board of Education?

  2. Please outline your Education, Work, and Volunteer Experience which will assist you in serving on the Board of Education.

***Each candidate must be prepared to address these items with the board at the Regular Meeting on June 26th, 2023, in an open forum. ***


Procedure: Once the Board meets with all of the candidates, at the meeting on June 26th, the board will go into executive session (closed to the public) to discuss. If a candidate is chosen, they will be announced in regular session, publicly. The chosen candidate will be sworn in and assume their seat that evening. The chosen candidate will serve on the board until the next regularly scheduled election in May 2024 (Board Policy 9223, Board Vacancies). If this candidate chooses to pursue a 3-year term, regular Board Seat following this appointment, they will need to follow the rules of open election as governed by the City of Valdez.
